Truck Accidents On The N3

n3-north-bound-town-hill-17-nov-2010-2 In the last six hours, there has being two different truck accidents on the N3 near Town Hill, just outside Pietermaritzburg, closing one to two lanes of the north or south bound carriage ways of the freeway.

The first accident which took place on the N3 north bound just before Town Hill happened just after 8am. An articulated truck over turned on the left hand lane, landing onto its side in the emergency lane up against the embankment. The driver was unhurt in the incident but the left hand lane had to be closed due the accident. It is believed that the trucks cargo shifted while the driver was going around the corner in the freeway.

Just after 1pm on the N3 south bound not far from the first accident in the morning, an articulated truck lost control and over turned and crashed into the Armco barrier but not before spilling its cargo across the freeway.

The driver who also managed to walk away from the wreckage unhurt was taken to a nearby hospital for a general check up. It is believed that the driver had mechanical problems while coming down the freeway causing him to lose control and over turn. The right and middle lane was affected due to this accident.

Traffic was severely affected in this accident but all necessary authorities were on the scene and were assisting in the traffic congestion.
