A forty one year old cyclist is in a serious but stable condition after crashing into a fellow bike rider on Shongweni Road, just outside Hillcrest this morning.

ER24 paramedics were notified by VEMA ( Voluntary Emergency Medical Assistance ) about the cyclist. Paramedics arrived on the scene and found the cyclist lying in the road, surrounded by his fellow friends. The patient was assessed and was treated for possible neck and back injuries. He was also treated for a possible dislocated right shoulder and multiple abrasions.

The patient was placed on oxygen and given pain medication by means of advanced life support intervention. The patient was stabilised and transported to hospital in a serious but stable condition for further medical care.

It is believed that the group of friends were on their way for their normal weekend ride, when the cyclists may have gotten too close to one another, causing the wheels to touch. This action caused the patient to lose control and crash into the road surface.
