Polo Crashes into Barrier on the N2

A family, believed to have been travelling home after Christmas festivities, has been involved in a serious accident on the N2 near the International Airport.

The blue VW Polo was the only vehicle involved in the accident, and it is believed that the woman driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the roadside barrier. The driver’s side was severely damaged, and the woman was entrapped in her seat. Paramedics at the scene stabilised her while the Fire and Rescue Services used the Jaws of Life to remove the mangled wreckage from around her. She was further stabilised on scene before being transported in a stable but serious condition to Life Vincent Pallotti Hospital.

Along with the woman were three young children seated in the back, and their grandfather in the front passenger seat. Two of the children were treated for minor injuries, while the third had a nasty cut to his face. They were all transported by ambulance to the same hospital as their mother. The grandfather was left with no injuries, and after being thoroughly checked by paramedics, decided he would rather not go to hospital with an ambulance.

All necessary authorities attended the scene.
