Being stopped at a road block need not be a bad experience!!

Deni Brown, the creator of the comic strip Mama Taxi and was recently pulled over by a traffic officer in the middle of Riversdale, while on the way to Knysna!…. She was in such a state of shock that she  just had to write a strip about it….

Johan Jacobs. Municipal Manager of HESSEQUA Municipality, saw the strip and responded by provding some more insights on the road block and this initiative:

“Thank you for the strip! When I read the BURGER this morning I saw it and was interested to where it could have originated because of the Hessequa project. Now we know it originated in Hessequa!!

In Riversdale we had the same project where we handed apples to Tourists during Easter weekends to promote safe driving and to welcome the road users to our area, for a number of years. After the amalgamation of municipalities Hessequa now consists of the towns Riversdale, Stilbaai, Heidelberg, Albertinia, Slangrivier, Witsand, Gouritsmond and we did roll out the project in the whole municipal area. The N2 runs through our municipal area for app 120km. The goodwill that we get and the positive effect on safer travelling through Hessequa is wonderful and we will again try to repeat the project during Easter when the traffic on our roads increase drastically!
