A bridge on the R555 between Middelburg and eMalahleni / Witbank collapsed on Thursday, 6 January 2011.

This lead to a complete closure of the alternative road to the N4 Toll Route between the two towns.

All traffic from the R555 is now diverted to the N4 Toll Route and will have to pass through the Middleburg Toll Plaza.

Trans African Concessions (TRAC), the concessionaire managing and operating the toll route, has put emergency plans in place to accommodate local road users.

All local commuters now having to make use of the N4 Toll Route can apply for a commuter concession tariff (discount) with immediate effect. The Middelburg Plaza office has extended its business hours to accommodate these inconvenienced road users. The office hours are:
• Monday to Friday, 07:00 to 20:00
• Saturday / Sunday, 08:00 to 17:00

The normal waiting period to process concession applications has been waived. Concession cards will be issued immediately.

The following information is required for all applications:
• Vehicle registration papers
• Proof of address (e.g. utility bill)
• Identity document
• Proof of workplace address (e.g. letter)

The concession for Class 1 vehicles is R12.40. Class 2 – 4 vehicles will qualify for a local discount concession which is class specific.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
A concession card is issued per vehicle (is vehicle specific). A concession card therefore cannot be used in other vehicles. If used incorrectly, the concession card is automatically hotlisted and becomes invalid.
