A serious motor vehicle collision occurred this afternoon on the R27, West Coast road in the vicinity of Silverstroom. It’s unclear as to how the collision occurred, but a light passenger vehicle allegedly lost control before leaving the road. The vehicle then proceeded to overturn multiple times over a distance of approximately 50 meters before coming to a standstill in the bushes.

When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they could see that the vehicle had sustained a large amount of damage. The vehicle had four occupants, three adults and one three year old child. Paramedics worked swiftly in stabilizing the patients. After a few minutes one of the female patients became further ill due to a chest injury she sustained in the motor vehicle collision.

The paramedics quickly established the need for rapid transportation and thus dispatched the ER24 Discovery Medicopter to the scene. Paramedics then worked swiftly to stabilize the female patient whilst the Medicopter flew to the scene. After a few minutes the Medicopter landed at the scene to airlift the patient to Groote Schuur Hospital.

With the holiday season nearing its end and more commuters using the highways and byways around Cape Town, ER24 would like to advise drivers to take extra precautions whilst using the roads.
