Two killed, Five injured in Eastern Cape crash

Two people including a 12-year-old boy were killed and five others were injured in a head-on collision involving two bakkies in Uitenhage, Eastern Cape police said on Sunday.

It is believed that the driver of a black Corsa bakkie carrying seven passengers, lost control of the vehicle, which then collided with another vehicle on Saturday, Warrant Officer Gerda Swart said.

The 12-year-old was flung out of the vehicle and died on the scene.A 49-year-old man later died in hospital, while five others were injured.

The driver of the second vehicle was not injured. The driver of the Corsa was arrested on the scene and faces charges including culpable homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless and negligent driving.

He would appear in the Uitenhage Magistrates’ Court on Monday. -Sapa
