TRAC steps in to secure the National Junior and U-16 Cycle Tour for 2011

Trans African Concessions (TRAC), the toll concessionaire operating and managing the N4 Toll Route between Pretoria and Mozambique (Maputo Corridor) will be the title sponsor of the TRAC National Junior and U-16 Cycle Tour this year.  This follows weeks of uncertainty over the future of the National Junior and U-16 tour.

The event will take place from 31 March to 03 April 2011 in and around Nelspruit/Mbombela.

Cycling is one of the biggest participation sports in the country. TRAC is looking forward to partner the organisers and Cycling South Africa to bring this event to the Mpumalanga Province. With this sponsorship, TRAC hopes to develop the sport, and create tourism and socio-economic development opportunities in the region.

The organisers of the TRAC Junior and U-16 Tour agreed to support TRAC in this endeavour by donating all entry fees to TRAC who in turn will use it towards the development of cycling in Mpumalanga.

The tour will be hosted over four days and routes have been chosen to showcase some of the region’s iconic landmarks and scenery.

Day 1 (Thursday, 31 March)

The first stage will cover a distance of 122km for the Junior cyclists and 78km for the U- 16’s along the N4 Toll Route via Schoemanskloof. While this stage is underway, TRAC will close Schoemanskloof to ensure the safety of cyclists. Traffic will be diverted via Elandskloof between Waterval Boven and Montrose.

Day 2 (Friday, 1 April)

The Junior group will start their second stage in White River while the U-16 race will commence in Sabie. Both groups will finish at TRAC’ Nelspruit office. The office is located just off the N4 on Mataffin Road, close to the Mbombela Stadium and behind Hall’s Gateway.

Day 3 (Saturday, 2 April)

Cyclists will participate in two different stages on the third day: A time trial over 20km along the Nelspruit Ring Road and a criterium around the Mbombela Stadium.

Day 4 (Sunday, 3 April)

The final stage on Day 4 will start and end at TRAC’s Nelspruit office and will take cyclists to Kaapmuiden and back to Nelspruit via Boulders.

TRAC hopes that this sponsorship is the start of an on-going and successful relationship with cycling. We will also investigate the feasibility of hosting a “cycling for all” event in Schoemanskloof from 2012.

On-line entry forms are available from http://www.cyclelab.com and registration will take place between 14:00 and 19:00 at the TRAC Nelspruit Office on Wednesday, 30 March 2011.
