Two Dead, Toddler Critical After Accident

In the early hours of Sunday morning, a collision left two people dead, a toddler in a critical condition and another two people in a serious condition after a taxi, a light motor vehicle and a SUV collided on Voortrekker road near Vanguard in the direction of Bellville.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found a taxi lying on its side, a light motor vehicle badly damaged and a SUV with massive damage to the front as well. Closer investigation found a male driver and a female passenger of the light motor vehicle entrapped. They had suffered severe traumatic and fatal injuries and were declared deceased on scene. On the back seat was a two year old toddler in a critical condition. He had suffered a head injury, broken bones and possible internal injuries. Advanced life support intervention had to be performed by means of the little boy been intubated and placed on a ventilator before he was rushed to Red Cross Children’s Hospital.

The driver of the SUV was entrapped and needed the Jaws of Life to be extricated from his vehicle. He had suffered multiple lacerations and possible neck and back injuries. He was transported to hospital for further medical care. The driver of the taxi was found seated outside the over turned vehicle complaining of pains to his chest. He was assessed and treated for blunt chest trauma and back injuries. He was transported to Tygerberg Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

It is unclear how this collision occurred but the local authorities were on the scene and would be investigating the incident further.
