A serious motor vehicle collision occurred this morning on the R82 near Walkerville, Gauteng. The collision involved a minibus taxi and a bakkie which collided head-on at high speed. When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene, provincial ambulance services were already treating multiple patients.
Due the force of the two vehicles colliding head-on multiple occupants in both vehicles were entrapped in the wreckage and needed to be extricated from the vehicles with the use of specialized rescue equipment. Whilst local fire and rescue services extracted the injured occupant’s, paramedics treated a total of nine seriously injured patients at the scene.
One of the occupants in the minibus taxi had sustained significant injuries and was later declared dead at the scene. ER24 ambulance services transported three patients from the scene, two of which were critical and one in a serious condition.
Five patients were transported by multiple other ambulance services. Local law enforcement authorities at the scene will be investigating the incident further.
