Seven injured in minibus taxi accident near Vereeniging


A serious motor vehicle collision occurred this afternoon on the R82 road in the suburb of Apple Orchard near Vereeniging. A vehicle occupied by a family of three ladies allegedly collided with the side of a minibus taxi. The minibus taxi then overturned, ejecting one of the passengers onto the road. The taxi then landed on its wheels, but on top of the occupant ejected during the collision.

When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene local fire and rescue services was already busy extricating the badly injured lady from under the wrecked minibus taxi. She sustained severe injuries to her head and chest and was later transported to hospital by another ambulance service.

The small passenger vehicle had three occupants; a grandmother, her daughter and the daughter’s four week old baby girl. Both the grandmother and the daughter had sustained severe injuries to their lower extremities and received on scene treatment before being transported to hospital in ER24 ambulances. Fortunately the four week old baby girl sustained no injuries.

Two other occupants including the driver from the minibus taxi were found walking around at the scene and were treated and transported by he provincial ambulance services. Local law enforcement authorities were at the scene and will be investigating the incident further.
