Car Crashes into Stationery Truck

A 54 year old man has sustained severe injuries after the car he was travelling in crashed into the back of a stationery truck on the R59 near Van Riebeeck Road.

The Hyundai truck was stationery on the side of the road for some unknown reason and the occupants were standing a short distance away. The red Ford, with the driver as the only occupant, suddenly drove straight into the back of the truck. The truck was pushed up the road and the Ford crashed into the roadside field. The Ford had been extensively damaged in the front and the man was trapped inside.

As ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene, immediate life saving treatment needed to be performed on the man. He had sustained multiple traumatic injuries to his head, stomach and hips. Paramedics stabilised him inside the vehicle while Rescuers cut the metal away.

The man was then transported in a critical condition to the Sebokeng Provincial Hospital for further treatment.

The occupants of the truck were luckily not injured.
