A twenty year old male is fighting for his life after being struck off his bicycle by a delivery truck on Impala Road, Protea Glen, just west of Johannesburg this afternoon.
ER24 paramedics rushed to the scene and found the man unresponsive and lying in a pool of blood in the middle of the road. The patient had suffered massive head and chest injuries and needed advanced life support intervention to be performed on him. While paramedics stabilised him further, the ER24 Discovery Medicopter was called to the scene to airlift the patient through to a nearby hospital in a critical condition where specialised trauma staff were waiting to take over the patient.
It is believed that the driver of the delivery truck somehow did not see the cyclist before it was too late. The cyclist was catapulted in to the air due to the impact while the bicycle was ridden over and broke into pieces.
The necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the incident further.
