Medicopter Airlifts Critically Injured Pedestrian

A man in his 30’s has been critically injured after being knocked by a car on Beyers Naude Drive near Johan Street in Honeydew.

The man was allegedly walking along the road when it is believed that he suddenly tried to cross over to the other side. At the same time a Ford Fiesta was driving along in the direction of Johannesburg. The car collided with the man and he was flung onto the road. When paramedics arrived, they immediately had to initiate Advanced Life Saving treatment as the man had sustained critical injuries.

Life saving equipment was used on the man and his vitals functions were taken over by the paramedics. The ER24 Discovery Medicopter was called in to airlift the patient to hospital.

The road was closed on one side for the Medicopter to land and traffic was diverted to the oncoming lane. The JMPD was at the scene to assist with the traffic control.

The man was airlifted to the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto for further treatment.

The driver of the Fiesta was left with no physical injuries.
