A tragic accident causing the death of a 6 year old little boy has occurred on Roman Street in Mossel Bay this afternoon.
The little boy, apparently on his way to the shops, was standing on the pavement off the street in Extension 13. A man was reversing his single cab Toyota bakkie when all of a sudden he was screamed at by surrounding community members to stop. He got out of the vehicle but it was too late. The boy was already underneath the back of the bakkie and had sustained multiple and severe traumatic injuries.
ER24 paramedics at the scene assessed the boy but found that he had tragically already succumbed to his injuries and he was dead at the scene. The driver of the bakkie was hysterical and needed to be taken to hospital for further emotional care.
The parents of the boy arrived at the scene and the paramedics had the difficult job of shielding them from the sight of their son lying on the ground. They were removed and comforted by family member shortly thereafter.
The police will be investigating the incident fully.
