3 Accidents result in 9 patients in Durban

Two single vehicle accident where the vehicles rolled and a third accident involving 3 cars has left 9 patients with various injuries in the Durban and surrounding areas.

The first of the three, occurring on the N2 near the Spaghetti Junction, happened shortly after 11 pm mere meters from where a pedestrian had been knocked down and killed at around 6:30 the same evening. ER24 paramedics who were driving in the area spotted the bakkie on its roof, up against the highway barrier and quickly made their way to see if there were any patients. Shortly after they had gotten on scene and determined that the 4 occupants of the bakkie had been ejected as the vehicle had rolled, the bakkie started to burn, and it did not take long for the entire vehicle to be engulfed in flames.

With quick thinking, paramedics immediately moved the 4 patient to a safer location away from the smoke and fire. The three men and a woman, all aged between 30 and 40 years old, suffered minor to moderate injuries. They were very fortunate as the damage that could be seen on the vehicle could have yielded very different results in the patients and the injuries that they may have sustained. The 4 patients were taken to hospital by ambulance for further care. Fire and Rescue services were quick to arrive at the scene to extinguish the blaze.

Around 20 minutes later, reports of another vehicle that had rolled on the N3 after the Shongweni off ramp came in. Paramedics quickly made their way to the scene and found a blue VW Golf in the road on its roof. The Rescue team from VEMA had already removed the three occupants of the car and were further assessing their injuries. The three young men had sustained moderate injuries and needed transportation to hospital where they were handed over in a stable condition.

In the early hours of Saturday morning before 1 am, Durban based paramedics responded to a 3 vehicle accident in Durban Central at the corners of Grey and Alice Roads. A Mercedes SLK had allegedly collided into a BMW after which a second BMW crashed into the initial 2 cars. The driver of one of the BMW’s and the passenger of the second BMW sustained moderate injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment. As paramedics left the scene with the patients, the driver and passenger, of whom neither sustained any physical injury, were seen to have been questioned by the police who attended the scene.
