ER24 Emergency Medical Service was invited to do a presentation on what it means to be a paramedic at the Herzlia Weizmann Primary School in Sea point this afternoon.
Shortly after 13:00 excitement could be felt in the air as the children noticed the emergency vehicle enter the front gates into the school yard. A class of grade 1 children are currently doing a term project on “People who help people” and today was evident that it was Paramedic day in the courtyard.
Three children were chosen to wear different safety helmets as worn by paramedics. One child wore an ER24 rescue helmet, the other an American issue fireman’s helmet and the last a helicopter helmet as worn by paramedics in the ER24 Discovery Medicopter program.
All the children were exited and paid attention as senior Advanced Life Support paramedic Schalk Van Der Merwe, explained the different equipment and medication to the kids. The children were also given the opportunity to touch and feel different equipment used by paramedics such as artificial respiratory devices and even heart rate monitors and a defibrillator.
All the children absolutely enjoyed the presentation and understood that paramedics are people who help other people and that ER24 delivers real help real fast.
