Father and two children injured in head-on collision

A serious collision occurred Friday evening on the N1 highway a few kilometres outside Kroonstad. A Father and his two children were traveling on the highway in the direction of Ventersburg when they collided head-on with a bakkie. It is unclear as to how the collision occurred.

When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they could see that the collision was severe as the amount of damage sustained to both vehicles was immense.

The father was entrapped in the wreck as the bent and broken vehicle had pinned the man behind the steering wheel. Local fire and rescue services had to cut the man free with the use of hydraulic rescue equipment.

The father had sustained significant injuries to both his legs in the form of multiple fractures as well as a fracture to his arm. His daughter also sustained a suspected injury to her arm. Both were treated at the scene before being transported by another ambulance service.

The 13 year old son had sustained a severe fracture to his leg as well as a suspected head and chest injury. He received treatment on the scene before being transported to a nearby medical facility in an ER24 ambulance.

There were two occupants in the bakkie. Both had sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene before being transported to a nearby medical facility by the provincial ambulance service.
