Woman killed as car crashes into Tree in Lenasia

A woman has been killed and another has been left with serious injuries after the car that they were travelling in left the road and collided into a tree in Lenasia.

The maroon sedan was travelling on Main Road in Lenasia in the direction of the N12 highway offramp where the driver appears to have suddenly lost control of the vehicle and it left the road. The car then crashed with enormous force into a palm tree in the center median of the dual lane carriageway. The entire front of the vehicle was crushed, and the impact to the drivers compartment was most severe.

Paramedics who arrived at the scene first determined quickly that the driver, a woman in her late 30’s, had suffered fatal injuries and she had already died at the scene. The started stabilising the woman who was sitting in the front passenger seat.

Fortunately, it was easy to remove her from the car and she was further stabilised en route to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital where she will undergo further treatment.

Fire and Rescue Services used the Jaws of Life to cut the remains of the deceased woman out of the wreckage.
