A woman who had allegedly severely hurt her arm after a fall at home earlier in the day was on her way to hospital with a friend when their vehicle is believed to have struck a cow on the R31 approximately 3 kilometers from Delportshoop in the direction of Kimberley.

ER24 was called by a passing motorist who saw the vehicle in the bush next to the road. The woman was still inside the car and was helped out with the assistance of the bystanders. As paramedics arrived at the scene, the 66 year old woman was assessed and found to have a broken arm, and multiple scrapes, abrasions and bruises over her face and hands. The broken arm was later determined to have been the earlier injury for which she was initially on her way to hospital for. Paramedics cleaned and dressed her wounds and stabilised her arm before taking her to hospital by ambulance.

The man who was driving the car and believed to have been a friend of the woman, was found to have already succumbed to multiple injuries that he had sustained in the crash. Unfortunately assessments of the man revealed no signs of life and he was declared dead at the scene.

The cow which was allegedly in the road was not physically seen by the paramedics at the scene, and details regarding the animal and the events leading up to the accident were obtained from witnesses at the scene.
