One dies as minibus overturns in Khayelitsha

A serious collision occurred this morning on Mew Way near Spine Road in Khayelitsha.

The cause of the collision is still unknown but it was evident that it was severe. The collision involved a minibus taxi with one occupant only and a small bakkie with two occupants. It seems that the minibus taxi had overturned in the collision partially ejecting the driver before landing on him.

When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene, local fire and rescue services and the Provincial Department of Health: Emergency Medical Services, Rescue services were trying to free the taxi driver from under the wreck. The man had sustained severe injuries and was later declared dead at the scene.

The passenger in the bakkie had sustained minor injuries only. The driver had sustained injuries to his head, chest and possible back and neck injuries. Both men were treated and stabilised at the scene before being transported to Kuilsriver hospital for further medical care.

Local law enforcement authorities were at the scene and will be investigating the incident further.
