Snow accident leaves one man seriously injured

The R21 between Pretoria and Oliver Tambo this morning

One man sustained serious injuries after being involved in an accident on Van Reenens pass this morning. Thick snow on the road caused the Corsa bakkie to slide off the road, a heavy goods truck then also lost control and slid into the bakkie.

Netcare 911 paramedics took just over an hour to travel 30 kilometers in the slippery conditions before they arrived at the scene. When they got to the patient he was still trapped in the twisted remains of his vehicle with serious injuries and signs of hypothermia.

After extricating the patient from the twisted metal he was transported to a hospital in Bethlehem as the roads to the Ladysmith hospital was inaccessible.
