Tree falls onto car in Pietermaritzburg

A family sustained some injuries this afternoon when a tree fell onto their moving vehicle.

ER24 paramedics in Pietermaritzburg received a call out to the incident and were surprise to see a large tree had almost flattened the VW Golf hatchback. All of the occupants in the car were able to climb out of the wrecked vehicle.

A father and his 1 year old son were accompanied by a female companion at the time of the incident. The 1 year old boy had sustained deep lacerations to his face and his arms. The father had sustained minor injuries in the form of abrasions. Both were treated at the scene before being transported to a nearby medical facility.

The female occupant sustained no injuries in the incident. The reason for the tree falling onto the road is unknown at this time. Local law enforcement authorities who attended the scene will be investigating the incident further.
