A horrific accident has taken place on the R59 direction of Vereeniging underneath the Johan Le Roux bridge, where a Toyota Stallion panel van carrying seven children and an adult crashed into the pillar of the bridge.

ER24 paramedics and other emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found the vehicle with extensive damage to the front. Six of the seven children aged between one and seven years old were found to have suffered fatal injuries and were declared deceased on scene. The driver and a two year old had suffered serious injuries and were stabilised before being transported to Sebokeng Hospital.

It is alleged that the driver lost control due to possible wet weather conditions but the local authorities will have to investigate the accident further.
