Who do you call in an emergency? The Arrive Alive website and the Road Safety Blog have during the past year been platforms to share reports on a variety of accidents, but more importantly – also to share advice and suggestions on avoiding injury and how to best respond to accidents.

During 2011 we were also privileged to join ER24 at an open day at the Sandton Medi-Clinic and bring some smiles to the little patients in the ward for children.

Our emergency medical response partner ER24 has kindly assisted in the development of these platforms and we are pleased to report that ER24 has shared some information on how these emergency services are provided in the Northern parts of Johannesburg.

ER24 in Johannesburg North

With our mission statement including the words Professionalism, Integrity, Compassion, Innovation and Balance, it is a clear indication as to the values that all ER24 staff operates in accordance with.

Not only are we a nationally based Emergency Medical Care provider, with ambulances and rapid response vehicles situated in every major town, we provide many more services that benefit the entire community. From sending an ambulance in a medical emergency to your doorstep or where ever you require us, to taking care of your children while they are at school or playing sport with our dedicated Schools Honours 24 Programme or being the preferred service provider for many companies across the country with our Corporate Access Programmes.

With the experience we have gained in the 10 year period that we have been a national Emergency Service Provider, we have built on many relationships in the community, providing domestic workers with talks, free of charge, on how to handle emergency situations in homes especially when they are in the care of your children, to holding show-and-tells of ambulances and Rapid Response vehicles at nursery schools.

Some of our paramedics have even take the necessary steps to help out when robots are out, donning their reflective vests and assisting in traffic flow as you are on your way to work. The risks involved in investing in a well-established company are greatly diminished, as our fees and cover are underwritten by a well know financial institution.

For a medical emergency, we will despatch via our national 084 124 Contact Center, the closest available ambulance to where you are situated. Not only is the number an easy one to remember, our qualified call takers are all in possession of valid first aid training. Your details will be efficiently taken down and recorded electronically after which and ambulance and/or response vehicle will be despatched to your location. In the event that it is a life threatening emergency, our trained despatchers, nurses or doctors, will be able to verbally talk you through the steps should you wish to perform any lifesaving procedures until the ambulance crews arrive to take over treatment.

In the event that you are not sure of whether to call an ambulance or not, the always open, always available Contact Center staff can be reached on 084 124, and you may ask to be put through to the medical advice line. These medically trained agents will be able to provide the necessary advice, or if necessary promote the response of an ambulance to your location should they feel it is necessary according to the signs and symptoms that you have described.

In the Northern Suburbs, we have 2 dedicated Rapid Response vehicles available day and night. There is also potential to call those from the surrounding area, if needed to assist. A Medicopter is also available, flying from Lanseria, which if deemed necessary and in accordance with the life threatening emergency, will airlift you from your location to hospital.

The ER24 Head Office in Paulshof, Sandton, is home to a well-established Training Academy. Anyone can join one of the many courses dedicated to training people in the community in emergency care. Simple courses such as basic CPR or first aid are taught on a daily basis, with specialised courses such as paediatric first aid being available too. These courses are designed to be able to provide the tools to you in your home, workplace or simply on the streets, to initiate lifesaving treatment until the ER24 team arrives.

The values that come with working for a well-established and trusted company such as ER24 are clear, shown in the passion of each and every one of our dedicated staff members, whether they work on a full time basis or part time.

ER24 invests in the community, and would like the opportunity to provide a trusted and professional service to you.
