A light delivery vehicle was traveling on Spence Road in the suburb of Malvern this afternoon when it hit a speed bump in the road ejecting the two occupants who were sitting in the back compartment.

The bakkie was converted to have an open load bed with a surrounding metal cage. One of the men grabbed hold of the cage as he was flung from the moving vehicle, while the other was flung forward, landing on the road where the bakkie then proceeded to drive over him.

The man in his 20’s who held on sustained minor scratches, but required no further treatment for his injuries. Sadly, the 35 year old man who landed in the road was not as fortunate and he had sustained extensive injuries to the top half of his body and head. There was nothing more that paramedics could do for the man, and as he displayed no signs of life, he was declared dead at the scene.

Although severely traumatised at having to see one of their colleagues on this way, the driver of the bakkie and other survivor left the scene with private transport.

The case will be under police investigation.
