21 People Injured After Train And Car Collide


[UMLAZI – 22 DECEMBER 2011 AT 16H30]

A train has derailed near the Reunion station after it collided with a light motor vehicle this afternoon. 21 people were reported to have being injured in the accident.
ER24 along with other emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found a train had derailed near to the Old South Coast Road in Umlazi.

The light motor vehicle was found wedged between one of the coaches and the wall of a bridge. The commuters that were injured in the incident were found seated on the railway line near to the train.

Paramedics assessed the patients and found that one person had suffered serious injuries and the remaining twenty commuters had suffered minor to moderate injuries.

The patients were all stabilised on the scene and transported to various hospitals in the greater Durban area for further medical care.

It is unclear this accident occurred but the necessary authorities from the railway lines were on the scene and would investigate the incident further. Train delays were expected due to the accident.
