Baby airlifted after taxi accident in Germiston

[Germiston 28 December 2011 08:00]

A 6 month baby has been critically injured and was airlifted to hospital following a taxi accident on the N17 near the Osborn Road exit in Germiston.

The taxi was the only vehicle involved in the accident and it seems that the driver lost control of the vehicle following mechanical failure.

The fully laden taxi rolled onto its roof and landed in the middle of the highway. 15 adults were treated for minor to moderate injuries while the 6 month old baby was treated for critical injuries. The baby needed immediate life saving stabilisation and the Medicopter then airlifted the young patient to the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital in Johannesburg. The remaining patients were taken per ambulance to hospitals in the surrounding area.
