Carnage on N2 Umgeni Road leaves three injured.

Three people were injured one critically in a snarl-up on the N2 north just before the Umgeni Road off ramp in Durban this afternoon. Reports from the scene indicate that a truck a taxi and 12 other vehicles were involved in an accident on the highway at around 14h15.

Netcare 911 paramedics and the emergency services arrived at the scene to find absolute carnage, at first glance we were sure that several people had to have lost their lives, but after triaging it was found that a critically wounded female was still trapped in the wreckage of a car that was wedged under the nose of the 18 wheeler, two others sustained serious injuries.

While the SAPS rescue officers and the firemen used the Jaws of Life an advanced life support paramedic clambered into the wreckage to stabilize the patient. All the injured were stabilized on scene and then transported to various hospitals for the care that they required.
