Man In Critical Condition After Hitting A Cow on the road outside Potchefstroom

[POTCHEFSTROOM – 30 DECEMBER 2011 AT 21H00]

A man believed to be in his mid thirty’s is in a critical condition after his light motor vehicle collided with a cow on the Potchefstroom – Ventersdorp Road about 24km outside of Potchefstroom in the late part of the evening.

It is believed that an emergency vehicle transporting a pregnant lady to hospital came across the cow in the middle of the road with broken glass near to it. Emergency personnel searched the area and found the car neatly tucked away in the veld in between blue gum trees. The vehicle had extensive damage to the front and the roof had been ripped open. The driver was found entrapped behind the steering wheel in a critical condition.

Advanced Life Support intervention had to be performed on the patient as paramedics suspected head, chest injuries and multiple broken bones. The Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment were used to extricate the man from the vehicle. Once the man was freed he was transported to Mediclinic Potchefstroom in a critical condition.
