Young man killed as bakkie rolls on the N1 in Midrand

[Midrand 29 December 2011 12:30]

A young man has been killed after his bakkie rolled on the N1 North just before the Allandale Road off ramp in Midrand.

For some reason, as it appears, the driver of the single cab bakkie lost control of the vehicle and it crashed into the concrete pillar below a sign post indicating the off ramp. The impact sent the bakkie’s canopy up the steep embankment after it had been ripped from the vehicle and torn into pieces.

The bakkie came to rest on its roof facing oncoming traffic, lying in the left emergency lane of the highway. The man was found lying inside the drivers compartment, lying on the roof of the now upside down vehicle. The vehicle was crushed and the man had suffered extensive injuries. Fire and Rescue workers from the Sandton Fire Station cut the man’s body free from the wreck and he was declared dead having suffered fatal injuries in the accident. He had been the driver and only occupant of the vehicle.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
