KHAYELITSHA 4 January 2011, 13:15

4 People have sustained various injuries this afternoon following a serious head-on collision in Khayelitsha.

The cause of the collision is still unknown, but when ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they could see that the collision was severe judging by the amount of damage sustained to both vehicles. The vehicles, a minibus taxi and a large SUV, had collided at speed.

The single occupant in the SUV had sustained serious injuries in the form of multiple broken bones. Due to the injuries sustained and the distance to the nearest appropriate medical facility, on-scene paramedics promptly dispatched the ER24 Discovery medicopter to the scene. The male driver was then stabalised before being airlifted to Tygerberg hospital.

The remaining 3 occupants from the minibus taxi all sustained various broken bones. They all received treatment at the scene before being transported to a nearby medical facility. Local law enforcement officials who attended the scene will be investigating the incident further.
