[LOUIS TRICHARDT – 04 JANUARY 2012 AT 12H00]
A suspected head on collision between a bakkie and a truck on the Thohoyandou Road about 3km outside of Louis Trichardt has left one person dead and another person with minor injuries this afternoon.
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found the bakkie in the middle of the road with extensive damage and the truck was found a few meters away across the road with damage to the front and side of it.
The driver of the bakkie who was partly entrapped, had suffered very traumatic and fatal injuries. Unfortunately he was declared deceased on the scene. The Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment were needed to be used to get the body removed from the vehicle. The driver of the truck was assessed and found he had suffered minor cuts and bruises. He was transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care.
The cause of the accident will be investigated by the local authorities.
