A collision on the N12 about 25km outside of Witbank involving a light motor vehicle and a bakkie, has left one person dead, another in a critical condition and four others with serious injuries this afternoon.

ER24 paramedics along with other emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found a red Honda Ballad just off the road with extensive damage to the back and a bakkie just a few meters away facing the Honda with damage to the front.

Paramedics assessed the injured and found that a young girl believed to be six had suffered fatal injuries and was declared deceased on the scene. Another child believed to be four was in a critical condition. Paramedics suspected internal and neck injuries and needed Advanced Life Support intervention to help stabilise him further. Four adults of which one was the driver of the bakkie had suffered possible neck and back injuries, along with cuts and bruises. The five patients went to various hospitals in the area for further medical intervention.

It is believed that the Honda Ballard had broken down and was stationary on the side of the road, when its alleged the driver of the bakkie lost control due to possible mechanical problems and collided in to the back of the Honda. The necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.
