A taxi collided into the side of a Toyota Corolla at the corners of William Nicol and Leslie Avenue in Fourways.

The cause of the accident remains unknown, but all of the impact was on the passenger side of the Toyota Corolla, where a woman in her 50’s had been sitting. Paramedics who arrived on scene needed to provide immediate Advanced Life Support treatment to her but her injuries were too severe and she did not survive.

The woman’s husband, who had been driving the car, suffered moderate injuries and he was taken to Charlotte Maxeke Hospital by ambulance. It is believed that the man and wife were foreigners, the woman receiving treatment for an illness at a Johannesburg Hospital.

The driver and another 3 occupants of the taxi were taken to Helen Joseph Hospital for treatment of various injuries including broken bones and possible neck and back injuries. The remaining occupants of the fully laden taxi suffered very minor injuries and they did not want to go to hospital, rather choosing to use private transport to get to their intended destinations.

Police at the scene will investigate the cause of the fatal accident.
