Horror R59 Crash Leaves Woman With Extensive Injuries

[Vereeniging 09 January 2012 08:00]

A woman in her 30’s has suffered extensive injuries after she crashed into a truck on the R59 near the Heidelberg Road off ramp in Randvaal this morning.
The woman was travelling in the direction of Johannesburg when it is believed she suddenly lost control of her VW Golf and it crashed over the grassy middle island of the road. A refrigerator truck was travelling in the direction of Vereeniging at the time and the two vehicles collided almost head on, with most of the impact being on the driver’s side of the Golf. The vehicle was badly wrecked, believed to have been driven over buy the truck, and it had then been pushed to come to a standstill again in the grassy island. The truck had some to rest in the road.

Paramedics immediately had to perform life saving treatment on the woman as she was in a critical condition and semi conscious. While Fire and Rescue workers used the Jaws of Life to cut the car open, the ER24 Discovery Medicopter was called in to transport the woman. She was airlifted to Milpark Hospital in a critical condition.

The driver of the truck was left with no physical injuries, and although severely shaken, decided not to go to hospital.
