The man is either believed to have been working on the side of the road, or he had been walking along it when he was struck by a passing vehicle. The VW Polo collided with the man on the Denver Terrance Service Road alongside the M13 in Westville, KZN.
The man suffered a severe head injury and multiple broken bones after he was flung onto the tar following the impact with the car. The Polo was quite badly damaged on the bonnet and roof, possible indicating that the patient went up and over the front of the car.
ER24 and EMRS paramedics worked together to stabilise the injured man and he was then taken to a local provincial hospital by the ambulance.
The man and 2 women in the car were fortunately not injured.
