[DURBAN – 17 JANUARY 2012 AT 13H15]
A 26yr old truck driver has sustained serious injuries after been involved in a collision on Bayhead Road, near Island View in Durban this afternoon.
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found two trucks involved in a collision. The cabin of the one truck was completely ripped open and the driver of the vehicle was entrapped due to the dash board had pushed down onto his legs due to the impact of the accident. The patient was assessed and was given Advanced Life Support intervention to help with the pain. The Fire Department had to use the Jaws of Life and other Hydraulic equipment to extricate him from the cabin. Once the patient was extricated he was stabilised further and assessed for any other injuries. He was transported by Medix and ER24 to a nearby hospital for further medical care.
It is unclear what caused the two trucks to collided but the local authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.
