15 People Injured After Bakkie Overturns

[DURBAN – 12 FEBRUARY 2012 AT 10H30]

Fifteen people including a child were injured after the bakkie they were travelling in over turned on the M7 Durban bound near to the N2 north bound this morning.

ER24 and emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found the bakkie lying on its side, with the occupants seated next to the vehicle on the embankment. The occupants were assessed on the scene and found that two of the fifteen were complaining of pains to their necks and back region. They were placed on specialised boards to help protect their spines from further injuries. The remaining thirteen patients were treated for minor cuts and bruises and general body pains. They were all stabilised on scene and transported to Kind Edward Hospital for further medical intervention.

It is believed that the bakkie may have had mechanical problems, causing the driver to lose control while coming down the M7. The necessary authorities will investigate the incident further.
