16 Injured In Taxi Accident on Golden Highway near Orange Farm


[JOHANNESBURG – 25 FEBRUARY 2012 AT 07H30]

One person is in a critical condition and fifteen other commuters have suffered various other injuries after the taxi they were travelling in lost control and rolled on the R553, Golden Highway near Orange Farm this morning.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found the taxi in the centre medium of the highway on its wheels. The taxi had extensive damage and commuters were found lying everywhere on the scene. Paramedics started to assesses the patients and found one lady believed to be in her late twenties in a very critical condition. It is also believed that she was pregnant. The patient had suffered a head injury and needed Advanced Life Support intervention. While paramedics tried to stabilise her further, the ER24 Discovery Medicopter was called to the scene to airlift the patient to hospital for further rapid medical care.

The remaining fifteen patients were treated for minor to serious injuries and were all stabilised on scene by emergency personnel and were transported to various hospitals in the area for further medical intervention.

It is believed that the taxi had some sort of mechanical problem causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.
