A serious collision on the N1 between Sasolburg and Kroonstad left an eight month old baby dead and four other people with critical injuries.
It is believed that a one tonner bakkie collided with a Ford Bantam bakkie half way between Sasolburg and Kroonstad. Paramedics that arrived on the scene explained that both vehicles had severe damage and some of the occupants of the Bantam bakkie were flung from the vehicle.
It is believed that a family was in the Bantam bakkie at the time of the crash. Two elderly people sustained multiple fractures and two middle aged people also sustained multiple injuries. It is not clear where the eight month old was in the vehicle at the time.
The one tonner vehicle had only one occupant inside of it. The man sustained moderate injuries.
All of the occupants were treated on the scene and rushed off to a hospital in Kroonstad for further medical management.
The exact cause of the collision is not yet known and will be investigated.
