A bakkie lost control on the N1 north bound between Gordon Road and 14th Avenue, leaving eight people injured this morning.
Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found the bakkie on its roof on the other side of a concrete barrier. The vehicle had extensive damage. The occupants of the bakkie all believed to be workers were found lying around the vehicle. Paramedics from different services assessed the patients and found that two workers were in a critical condition and needed Advanced Life Support intervention to be performed on them. Six other workers had sustained moderate to serious injuries. They were all stabilised on scene and transported to Flora Clinic for further medical care.
It is believed that the bakkie may have had some sort of mechanical problem, causing the driver to lose control and over turn on the freeway.
