An accident at the corners of Bunyan Street and Cranbourne Avenue in Benoni has left a young man with multiple and very critical injuries.

The 21 year old was travelling on a motorbike, believed to have been travelling along Cranbourne Avenue when a collision with a bakkie occurred. The bike crashed into the left front of the bakkie causing the motorcyclist to be flung from his bike. It is still not clear as to who crossed the intersection at the wrong time, and investigators will determine the exact details of the accident and its cause.

The young man was found lying on the ground with extensive injuries. He had sustained multiple broken bones in his legs, hip area and a possible head injury and suspected internal injuries. He was stabilised at the scene by paramedics while a Medicopter was called in. The man was airlifted to the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital in Johannesburg where he will undergo further assessment and the necessary continuation of treatment.

The driver of the bakkie was left with very minor injuries.
