Just before 8am, a multi vehicle pile up occurred on the N1 in the direction of Fourways just past the 14th Avenue on ramp.
It is not clear what caused the accident, but eight cars and a truck crashed into one another, blocking three lanes of the highway. Only one lane remained open to traffic.
ER24 paramedics were first on scene and began assessing the patients. They were surprised that none of the occupants had sustained any severe injuries as the damage to the vehicles was extensive.
One lady in her 30’s had sustained minor injuries and she was taken to Helen Joseph Hospital by ambulance. Fortunately, after thorough assessment by paramedics, it was found that none of the other vehicles occupants had sustained any physical injuries and they did not require further medical attention at hospital.
Traffic was severely affected in the area, already under strain as people make their way to work on the busy highway.
