Pedestrian struck by vehicle on N7

A man believed to be aged in his 30’s sustained various injuries this morning after he was struck by a vehicle allegedly trying to cross the N7 highway in Goodwood.

When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they found the man at the side of the road. The pedestrian had sustained a serious head injury as well as various scrapes and bruises. Due to the injuries sustained and the distance to the nearest appropriate medical facility, on-scene paramedics promptly dispatched the ER24 Discovery Medicopter to the scene.

Local fire and rescue services and the Western Cape Provincial Department of Health: Emergency Medical Services secured a landing zone on the N7 highway and the road was closed for traffic as the Medicopter landed at the scene. The man was then airlifted to Groote Schuur Hospital for further medical care.

Local law enforcement officials who attended the scene will be investigating the incident further.
