Three injured in Richmond collision

Two vehicles driving on the R56 near Richmond have collided head on with one another, leaving three people with various injuries.

A VW Polo was driving up the hill and the woman driving the vehicle may have lost control of the vehicle as she was coming around the corner. According to a witness on scene, the vehicle swerved and collided into a VW Golf that was traveling in the opposite direction in which two men were traveling.

Both vehicles were extensively damaged, with metal crumpled up around their front ends. The vehicles were found stationary a few meters apart.

All three of the patients appeared to be in their thirties, and they were assessed on scene and found to have sustained various injuries. The woman was treated for suspected back and neck injuries as well as scraped to her face. Both men had sustained facial injuries as a result of the collision.

The patients received Advanced Life Support care in the form of pain medication, and they were taken to hospital by ambulance for further medical care.

Investigators will determine who was at fault in the cause of the collision after their assessments of the scene.
