Truck Accident Outside Of Postmasburg

[POSTMASBURG – 13 FEBRUARY 2012 AT 18H35]

A truck driver has been killed and his passenger sustained serious injuries after the articulated truck they were travelling in over turned on the R385 between Kimberley and Postmasburg, about 12km outside of Postmasburg yesterday evening.

ER24 Fire and Rescue were called to the scene and found the articulated truck lying on its side with the cabin on its roof. The emergency personnel had to try and gain accesses in to the cabin to get too the patients inside. The driver was found near to the steering wheel but unfortunately had already succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased on scene. The passenger believed to be in his late twenties was complaining of pains to his shoulder, his hip and neck region.

The Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment were used to gain further access in to the cabin to help stabilise the passenger further. The patient was placed on a specialised board and taken to Postmasburg Hospital in a serious but stable condition for further medical intervention.

It is unclear what caused the driver to lose control his truck but the local authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.
