[HILLCREST – 21 FEBRUARY 2012 AT 18H30]
A truck driver is in a serious condition and his passenger sustained minor injuries after the truck they were travelling collided into something and over turned on the N3 Durban bound, 1km before the Shongweni on ramp this evening.
ER24 and VEMA arrived on the scene and found the vehicle on its side with extensive damage to it and wedged up against the Armco barrier in the left hand lane. The passenger who was found walking around on scene was examined and found to have sustained very minor injuries. The driver was found inside the truck and entrapped. Paramedics assessed him and started with Advanced Life Support intervention due to the injuries he had sustained in the accident. The Jaws of Life and other rescue equipment were used to extricate the patient from the vehicle. Once freed, he was stabilised further and taken to Hillcrest Private Hospital in a serious condition for further medical care.
Traffic was slightly affected due to the collision but the necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.
