Paramedics who arrived at the scene of the accident on the N3 north before the Merryvale off ramp in Pietermaritzburg were surprise to find the patient walking around the scene.
The bakkie that the man in his 20’s had been traveling in was crushed underneath the back of a truck. He had however climbed from the wreck himself and had suffered what appeared to have been moderate injuries only. Paramedics treated him for multiple deep cuts to his face as well as placing him on a neck and back stabilising board.
The young man was was taken per ambulance to the Mediclinc Pietermaritzburg for further assessment and care.
There had been no other occupants in the vehicle, and the occupants of the large truck had not been injured.
The cause of the accident is as yet unclear and will be determined upon completion of official investigation.
