Male driver dies in Springs collision

One man has died and four other people have sustained various injuries following a collision between a car and a truck at the corners of Paul Kruger and Main Reef road in Springs.

The cause of the collision is unclear at this stage, but a passenger vehicle with five occupants collided with the side of a truck in the intersection. The truck allegedly tried to avoid the collision, but collided with a third vehicle.

When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they could see that the collision was severe as the passenger vehicle had sustained severe damage. The driver, a male believed to be aged in his 40’s, sustained severe injuries and was unfortunately later declared dead at the scene.

One of the male passengers had sustained suspected back, neck and chest injuries. The man was carefully extricated from the vehicle before being immobilised to special equipment. The patient then received treatment at the scene before being transported to a nearby medical facility.

The remaining three occupants, all men believed to be aged in their late 20’s, received treatment at the scene for suspected back and neck injuries. All of the men were later transported from the scene in various ambulances to various hospitals in the area.

The driver of the truck and the other vehicle sustained no injuries in the collision. Local law enforcement officials attended the scene and will be investigating the incident further.
